Fiercer Than You

I had no idea one of my collaborations that was on Zink Magazine got attention online.
It's been months now, but still I'm glad someone/some liked it.

+
I started a new series of paintings, and will be doing more etchings real soon.
Please check out my website now and then for more updates.

CQ31 Online gallery

My work has been posted up online!
I haven't been painting lately due to work and taking silkscreening classes,
but will eventually finish up the paintings I've been working on for so long.

Yay started working

I got really lucky to get a chance to work in Yuken Teruya Studio at EFA.
I'm learning the beauty of patience, the delicacy of paper, and the importance of details.
Even though I haven't been familiar with paper (except for painting and ink) this opportunity is making me think about various other things I could do in the future.

And these things could turn out to be good stuff
but we'll see.

Las Laguna Gallery online gallery

I'm on the online gallery for the Portraits: A Focus on the Face Group Show at Las Laguna Gallery.
I didn't know they had taken a picture of my work & post my name online
but this made me really happy.

I'm working on other paintings currently, and will be posting them on my website very soon!

ps. I did update my website for the silkscreens I've been doing lately. Please check them out!

My first silkscreen!

I am finally learning silkscreening at SVA.
This is my first attempt/test/trial.

From now on, I'll be doing complicated images
and I'm looking forward to it. XD

First layer

I'm just taking my time painting this time.
No rush, more layers,
and hope it turns out great.

Silkscreening classes coming soon!

I just registered into Sara Varon's silkscreen for illustrators class on Saturdays.
I'll be posting new stuff really really soon!

And yes, I started painting again.
It seems like I'll be finishing it up soon too.

I'm still continuing to stick to my portfolio's theme,
which was the relationship of the beauty, the cycle of life (where is the beginning and end, how it goes around in circles eternally), and nature.

I am having my training sessions at RBPMW, so I'll be working pretty soon.

Lot of things happening, and I'm pretty excited about everything right now.
(Except the fact that I need to get a job for money SOON, or continue praying so that someone who liked my promo contacts me)

Matsui Fuyuko

After Joo Chung recommended me this artist,
she never left my mind.
(Seriously. I saw her documentaries, her photos, her website, her interview, etc etc)

I always thought of buying her books but it felt like I needed more time to think about it
because it's not cheap..

but after thinking
and thinking
and thinking again,

I just bought the two volumes.
I'll be broke for a few days
but it's going to be alright.
Because now I own the books!!

I CANNOT WAIT TO GET THEM

RBPMW

I had my interview today, and I got hired as a monitor!
I'll have to go to some training sessions and do 20 hours before gathering hours,
but still: I'm really happy of what came out of this.
It will be an awesome opportunity, and I will learn a lot from this.

Fashion Collaboration

Once again I'm working with my fried Biel Parklee, who took the photos,
and me doing the background: this time, animals.

Tried to simplify parts so it's easier to manipulate in photoshop.

Cut out - bookworks

I had never tried cut outs before, but as I am taking a bookmaking class, one of the assignments was to make a book out of a book.
The only thing that I could think of was picking a book at Strands (a hard book cover) and try to do something related to the title.

The book I picked up was Animals Welcome by Peg Kehret.

I didn't know what I was doing (right or wrong) but I started cutting out silhouettes of animals.

I ended up with something looking like this.

Next morning, I felt that I needed something for the background so that there could be depth in the book.

And here is what I finished with.
I am pretty happy being my first attempt, but I think such careful and delicate work is not for me.

Monmouth Museum exhibition

I got into this exhibition and they put my image up to promote it.
Pretty happy about this, and please do visit the museum if you can:
there's LOTS and LOTS of amazing stuff.

WKorea January 2013

I finally got my copy that I had to order online because they had sold out at Koryo Books.
It's taking me a while to really feel great about ending up in 2nd place because it's unreal.
Anyways, now back to work.

(By the way, I hate how they wrote my name... here, my name is Soo In, instead of Soo Ryn. Sigh.)
